It’s that time of year again! You mean time for a latest news update? Well, that too, but I really mean Spring Time!!! That magical time of year when all kinds of things start blooming. Long pants transform into shorts, flannel shirts and heavy coats are traded in for tank tops and bikinis. What a wonderful world. Wait a minute, this is supposed to be about the band… I’m so easily distracted. Well here we go…

Backyard Groove recently celebrated our one year anniversary, and what a year we have had. For a new band starting out at such a tough economic time, and with such vast amounts of musical alternatives in the area, we have had unbelievable success. Luckily, club owners have been gracious enough to work us into their rotations and we have had tremendous crowd response. Thank you to all who have worked with us and have come out to see us over the past year. Without you, this band wouldn’t have been able to grow the way it has.

We’ve had some HUGE shows lately and a big summer is planned. April is wedding and party time, so you only have a couple of chances to catch some public shows. After that, we start hitting some of the hottest clubs and festivals around. Make sure you check the website regularly as we are always adding new dates. Also, sign up as a friend on our Facebook page to get event invitations and updates that are WAY more frequent than the Latest News page. (Yes I’m slack.)

Well, it’s getting tired and I am late… or something like that. Thanks again to everyone for all of your support! Oh yeah, if you hire us for a party where pork or banana pudding is involved, Al will play for free! See you soon and keep on Groovin’.

Say it ain’t so… January is almost over already?!?! Another month gone and another late installment of our news. Hey, we don’t call it "latest" news for nothing. Here we go…

The winter has been a cold one so far, but the club’s have been HOT! From Greenville to Emerald Isle we have been seeing some great crowds. Who knew you could get a crowd at the beach in January? Mike and Pat definitely have it going on. I’d like to thank everyone who’s been coming out to see us and especially the club owners for allowing us to come in and Flip it on everybody! What’s that? Someone out there asked what I meant by Flipping it? Well my friend, you might be one of the few who hasn’t caught a show lately. When you see us, you’ll know what I mean when the great Knight Rider (no I’m not talking about the talking car) goes into Flip Mode. It keeps the dance floor PACKED!

Upcoming highlights — We have our return to LIVE, some familiar favorites such as Tavern on 4th, The Emerald Club, and Chefs 505, return trips to the coast, Weddings for some great couples, and an awesome Festival schedule. Lot’s of chances to see us in a variety of places, so come on out.

Warning, this is a solicitation — WE HAVE CDs AND STICKERS FOR SALE!!! Pick them up at any show. And coming soon (as soon as the weather warms up), BOOTY SHORTS! Now who doesn’t love that? Picture a nice full left and right "BACKYARD" and a strategically placed "GROOVE". It almost brings a tear to my eye.

One more thing, we now have a personal chef who travels with us. He specializes in hamhocks, fatback, greens, and puts gravy on everything. Next to add to the crew… heart surgeon.

Thanks for your continued support and Keep On Groovin’…

Thanksgiving and Christmas are almost here!!! I can’t believe we’re already closing in on the Backyard Groove one year anniversary. What a year it has been. We’ve played so many different places and events, seen lots of old friends and made lots of new friends, and BYG has Flipped It on all of ya! The rest of the year is going to be awesome and we have a great 2010 already coming together. Look for us in the same familiar places and some new ones as well. We’re getting calls to play in some of the hottest clubs around, so you’ll get plenty of chances to see us at your favorite party spots.

The rest of November and December have shows in the Greenville area, and of course the BIG New Year’s Show will be at the Shriner’s in Wilson. Tickets are available but are almost sold out, so contact us for information on how to get yours now.

Thanks to everyone who comes out to support us! You make it worth effort it takes to get my tired butt up there every show. A special shout out to Landon Minges who will be taking over duties as official beverage provider and Lead Vocalist in our upcoming shows!! (Well, the lead vocalist part might be in question — it depends on what the official beverages are)!

Now, on a serious note, with Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up it’s time to turn our attention to what matters the most to us — friends, family, peace on earth, and last but not least — Turkey and Sweet Potato Casserole!!! That’s right, good eatin’ and lots of it. I’ve already had one Thanksgiving meal and I’m looking forward to the next. If I’m lucky, I’ll have leftovers until the next round at Christmas. For anyone coming to the shows between now and New Year’s, you’ll get your choice of deviled eggs or collards with fatback. I’ve decided to keep all the banana pudding for myself!

Hope to see you soon and Keep On Groovin!

Well I guess “Latest News” should be re-titled “Late News”. It has been a while so here we go . . . First, if you haven’t already signed up as a friend on our Facebook site, there is a link on the right side of this home page. Click it, be our friend, enjoy our insightful comments, etc etc.

Man what a last couple of months!!! The shows and the summer are really heating up. The National MS Society, Treybrooke Apartments, Weddings, Parties for new friends, some of our favorite clubs like Tie Breakers, City Bistro, Chef’s (both 105 and 505), Watermark . . . we’ve been covering it all.

August is going to be an awesome month with lots of public shows. We’re back at City Bistro on the first, and be sure to catch a BIG ANNIVERSARY show at Tavern on 4th. The Scotland Neck Crepe Myrtle Festival is always a great time and a good chance for you early birds who don’t like the night life to come out and see us.

I promise to get out updates more frequently. If I don’t, sign up on Facebook and tell me about it.

Also, if you’d like weekly text reminders of the shows for the week, email us and we’ll put you on the list.

Also Also, it’s never too early to start looking for stocking stuffers. Hmmmm, what would make a perfect gift for someone I care about???? I know — A Backyard Groove CD and Sticker. How can I get one you ask?? Come to the shows and ask for one. That’s right, we have merchandise we need to move. These bills don’t pay themselves.

Also Also Also, corn pudding goes great with chicken and collard greens. And here’s a little teaser, big news on banana pudding will be coming soon!!!

Seriously though, I want to send a BIG THANK YOU to all of you have supported us in the development of this band. Club owners, friends, families, people behind the scenes who work on websites and help with advertising, and especially the fans — all of you have allowed us to give the gift of music. It is because of you that we are able to do what we truly love to do.

Keep On Groovin’

Hey everybody! It’s been a while since we’ve sent out an update, but that means we’re busy!!! The quick summary is that the last several shows have been great! Our first time (and second time) in to the Pirate’s Den was fun. Good reviews have us book back there again. Thanks Jay! Also, the Watermark Restaurant in Atlantic Beach was a blast!!!!!!! The weather was a little rocky, but the party crowd was out in force. Those guys were dancing from the first song and never slowed down. Thanks a lot Ben! Look for us back there in the next few weeks as well. Word of our performance also got back to a "little" festival they have down at Morehead in October, so you might get to see us while munching on some shrimp. Riverside in Tarboro was fun as always. Thanks to Steve for having us and look for us to be back.

Lots of great shows are coming up so make sure you’re there!
Bonus News — CD’s are now available!!! So are stickers!!! Ask us at one of the shows or email us for more information.

Bonus Bonus News - Now in addition to the chicken leg, collard greens are only $3 a quart! Can you say Yummy?!

The last few weeks have been really busy. The band has been in the studio recording and are working on finalizing some cuts. Thanks to our friends Barry and Parmalee, and Studio B for their support! We’ve also been in rehearsals working on new material and gearing up for the spring shows. For those of you who think you're familiar with us from a previous band, you’re going to have some surprises! In other news, warm weather is on the way and everybody’s in a party mood… Spring Fever Baby! Can’t wait to see you guys at the shows and thanks for supporting Backyard Groove! (And remember, on the second Friday of months that have two full moons, every tenth person gets a free chicken leg with their admission.)
